It is with sorrow and sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend on December 29, 2025, at the age of 89 at the Middlechurch Personal Care Home. Joyce was born in the Brokenhead Municipality, the oldest of five children. She worked a variety of jobs including summers in Grand Marais, and Canada Packers. She married Peter Krowchuk in 1956 and took time off to raise their family. While they were caretakers at the Winnipeg Revolver & Pistol Club, she operated the canteen during meets, the most memorable being the rifle/pistol competitions of the 1967 Pan American Games. In 1977 she started working at Great West Life Assurance where she made many lasting friendships and stayed until her retirement in 1991. Retired but still busy, Mom and Dad took on the role of daycare as they looked after their grandchildren during the week and treasured the time they got to spend with them. Mom loved to cook, garden and crochet among other things. She looked forward to her weekly coffee visits at the mall with friends. Joyce was predeceased by her loving husband Peter, her parents, Michael and Mary Hlady, her brothers Ronald, John, and her sister Valerie (Shumila). Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Jennifer (Dennis) and son Gerald, as well as grandchildren Daniel, David, Kayla (Tyson) Smerchanski, great-granddaughter Macie (who she loved showing off at the care home), her brother Ben (Pat) Hlady as well as cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Luncheon will be held to celebrate Mom’s life on June 20, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB, 204-338-7111. Many thanks to the staff at Middlechurch PCH for their kind and compassionate care of our mother.
